800 years of history to preserve

Maintaining and restoring a place with more than eight centuries of history requires constant care. Every stone and every structure needs regular attention so that the abbey can continue to welcome visitors, walkers and heritage enthusiasts. Thank you for your support

Thanks to your generosity, a new, more efficient, and more sustainable pellet boiler was installed in October 2025 to improve the site’s heating system while reducing its energy footprint. A new delivery system via the upper parking lot has also been set up to facilitate fuel supply. Preserving a site steeped in more than eight centuries of history requires constant investment to adapt the infrastructure while respecting the site’s heritage.

A New Project

A building permit has been granted to Val-Dieu Abbey to renovate the roof of the novitiate. This roof owes its uniqueness to the 14 semicircular skylights that make up the structure. This large-scale project, costing nearly 500,000 euros, is expected to begin by 2028. Every donation, regardless of the amount, makes a tangible contribution to sustaining and preserving the abbey for future generations. The fundraising campaign is now open to support this new conservation project for the abbey.
